The American Silver Eagle has been a popular annually issued product of the U.S. Mint since 1986. To keep up with customer demand and to combat pandemic-related production slow-downs, the Mint granted authorization to its San Francisco branch to produce Silver Eagle bullion coins, which are traditionally struck at the West Point Mint. 2021 is also a milestone year for the series, with the pending introduction of a newly designed reverse in mid-2021. Early-year Silver Eagle releases will be the final bullion coins to be minted with the original heraldic eagle image crafted by John Mercanti, the Mint's 12th Chief Engraver.
